Over the weekend assignment- The Memex

After reading the articles published by Vannevar Bush, I was highly puzzled with the information and speculations Bush had for the future. In particular, I found the description of the Memex to be almost spot on to what we would consider our Memex. The WWW, provides us with the communication and information sharing that Bush predicted his idea of the Memex to be.

After the readings, I searched the term Memex on Google and I came across an interesting video named "Memex and Beyond" by Haeree Park. The video shows the general idea and purpose of the Memex. In the video, a man is sitting on a desk with his laptop and scattered papers around the desk. The man is conducting research for a project he is doing, every time he searches up something, his computer consolidates the information and links it to other similar information. After gathering up enough information, the man shares the information online and another person stumbles across it and helps him out with his project by giving back suggestions.

I found this video to be intriguing because the producers of this video made it possible and clear how the idea of the Memex can be applied to our present society. The Memex seems to exist in all areas of our society, however it seems hard to depict it when we are all so busily consumed with our individual tasks.

Erick,

I really like your analysis of the articles and the video you picked. I also picked a youtube video explaining and showing how the memex would work so it was interesting to compare and contrast our experiences. I like how in the video you watched there was a person performing the tasks. In mine it was just a mouse clicking on the parts and then the parts functioning. Also it sounds like your video explained how the information consolidation works better than my video did.
Nice work!
